A word about the artist Pierre Soulages:
Pierre Soulages was born in Aveyron, France, in 1919.
Before becoming the great contemporary artist we know, Soulages first painted the surrounding countryside before leaving for Paris to study at the Fine Arts.
In the capital, Soulages will crisscross the major museums, especially the Louvre, and be fascinated by artists like Cézanne, Picasso or Braque.
It was after World War II that Soulages devoted himself exclusively to painting, working more and more light games with black, to go to theblack overseas that made him so famous.
Pierre Soulages is now on display in the world’s leading museums and collections. The Centre Pompidou dedicated a major retrospective to him for his 90th birthday, in 2009, and on the occasion of his centenary,it was the Louvre that hosted a superb exhibition Pierre Soulages.
